Portuguese startup develops AI with accuracy beyond human level

Medtiles, a Portuguese startup, is applying AI in the medical field with remarkable results: its accuracy in analyzing clinical images such as MRIs and CT scans already exceeds human capability.

On the podcast “O Futuro do Futuro”, Sandra Moreira (CEO and founder) and João Reis (AI consultant and researcher at the University of Porto) describe how AI can enhance medical education, deepen expertise, and democratize access to knowledge.

According to João Reis, this diagnostic accuracy comes from the long-term development of advanced architectures and AI’s ability to "absorb a far greater number of images than any clinician could analyze in an entire lifetime."

Medtiles has already launched an application called Tutor, aimed at doctors. Sandra Moreira explains that its development originated from a practical challenge: the growing difficulty of applying acquired knowledge in the face of the exponential growth of medical information.

Tutor includes:

  • A virtual assistant providing curated information based on scientific articles;
  • An interactive clinical case simulator that allows medical training without real patients, recreating scenarios close to clinical reality.
