Key trends

The year 2023 proved to be a booster year for tourism. Travelers went above and beyond, some took to the skies, visited trails, roads, explored the Arctic and some even embarked on an epic tourist journey into space, crossing goals off their wish lists.

As expected, 2024 will be no different, but better. Condé Nast Traveler has presented the 20 travel trends for 2024. We highlight some of the trends:

Astrotourism
Astrotourism, the act of traveling in order to see astronomical phenomena, allows you to “disappear” in lands devoid of any pollution, crowds or traffic. These trips allow you to disconnect from everyday life, concentrating only on the skies, contemplating the stars, planets and concerts, enjoying the simplicity of life and leaving everything else behind.

Changing homes
Discerning travelers are looking to stay away from their usual residence for longer periods of time, often combined with the growing trend of remote jobs, where you can work from anywhere in the world. Although this trend is still an uncommon/unknown reality for some people, it is the perfect solution: a (free) home exchange for weeks or even months at a time, while “offering” your home in return. The people involved exchange homes and have different experiences.

Concert travel
Music stars massively influence travel all over the world according to the tours/concerts they perform. The trend for 2024 is a continuation of 2023: people planning their vacations/trips according to the shows they are going to see.
The world recently witnessed the Taylor Swift effect, in which travel increased substantially in the countries where the singer performed. Other artists such as Beyoncé, U2 or K-Pop bands like the world-famous BTS are also examples that influence tourism. Other examples of this trend are music festivals, such as TOMORROWLAND, an electronic music festival which, due to its growing audience/popularity, has spread all over the world: from France (winter edition), Belgium (the original version of the event), Brazil and the USA (known as TomorrowWorld).

Skip-gen trip
Skip-gen literally means skip a generation: grandparents and grandchildren go on vacation together. In many cases, grandparents take their grandchildren to places that mean something to them. The increase in average life expectancy and the decrease in the birth rate, phenomena felt all over the world, have also helped this trend to grow.
