Energy

Do you want to invest in the energy sector or make your business greener?

Renewable gases, including hydrogen, are a priority both at national and European level.

Reducing dependence on fossil fuels to achieve a carbon neutral society is the objective of Portugal and Europe by 2050. Thus, policies have been implemented, namely the European Ecological Pact and, at national level, the Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality (RNC 2050), the National Energy and Climate Plan for the horizon 2021-2030 (PNEC 2030) and the National Strategy for Hydrogen (EN-H2).

In fact, hydrogen (H2) stands out as an essential energy vector for the decarbonisation of the various sectors of the economy and as a potential for the national economy, because Portugal presents very favourable conditions for developing a hydrogen economy, with the existence of a modern natural gas infrastructure, competitive renewable electricity production prices and a strategic geographical location for production and export.

In this context, there are financial instruments to promote the production, storage and trading of renewable gases, but also the adoption of measures to decarbonise industry.

Hydrogen, the fuel of the future

- By 2050, it could generate a quarter of total energy demand;

- 52 billion homes with H2 heating systems;

- In transport, it could represent:

  • 42 M H2-powered cars
  • 1.7 M trucks
  • 500.000 buses
  • 5.500 trains
